I am Peter Meirmans, a Dutch fine art portrait photographer creating timeless, expressive portraits of artists, creatives and individuals. My work is shaped by light, emotion and stillness, with a strong emphasis on authentic human presence.

I am not interested in perfect portraits. I am interested in what happens when someone lets go of control and allows something real to emerge.

I did not begin with the intention of photographing faces. I began with light.

Light falling across a surface.
Light revealing form.
Light holding silence.

Over time, I became less interested in capturing expressions and more drawn to what exists beneath them: the moment before a gesture, the stillness between breaths and the quiet presence that does not ask to be seen, yet is deeply felt.

My photography is rooted in fine art portraiture and conceptual photography. Every image is created with intention, patience and trust. Nothing is forced. Nothing is performed. I create space for individuality, vulnerability and character to become visible.

Light plays a central role in my process. Influenced by classical chiaroscuro and painterly portraiture, I use contrast not merely for drama, but to sculpt presence, reveal depth through shadow and express emotion through restraint.

Darkness, in my work, is not absence. It is atmosphere.

I photograph artists, musicians, creatives and people with a story to tell. Whether working in the Netherlands or internationally, my goal is not simply to document how someone looks, but to create a portrait that feels honest, timeless and deeply personal.

I am not searching for perfection.
I am searching for truth.

Photography, for me, is not about documentation alone. It is about creating images that stay with you, as if they have always existed.
